Jim Gough

Transportation Infrastructure Specialist

Jim Gough has close to 40 years of experience in transportation planning and engineering. He has significant expertise relating to regional and municipal transportation, encompassing transit planning, traffic engineering, active transportation, parking and policy development. Jim rose in the Transportation Planning department of Marshall Macklin Monaghan to become manager of that group. When MMM was purchased by WSP Canada, Jim continued as manager of the largest transportation planning group in the firm's Canadian operation. He has completed a wide range of urban intensification and multimodal transportation projects in all regions of Canada, from urban cities to the Arctic.

Jim served on secondment for three years to Metrolinx, the Ontario provincial transportation planning agency, as Manager of Transportation on the 19 kilometer Eglinton Crosstown LRT in Toronto, addressing all issues related to surface transportation for that project. Jim also led numerous other multimodal transportation corridor studies, such as rail service expansion feasibility studies for GO Transit and the Reimagining Yonge Street Environmental Assessment in Toronto. His experience is wide-ranging, from shopping centres to hospitals to mixed-use developments, with international work including projects in Bahrain, New York City and Dubai.

Jim has served as a volunteer in both the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the Transportation Research Board, two pre-eminent global transportation professional organizations. He was elected to the national and international executives of ITE, positions which allowed him to develop leadership skills and knowledge of international transportation practice.
